Varane: Zidane was very important during my injury

In an extended interview for FIFA.com, Real Madrid defender Raphaël Varane talked about the beginning of his football career and analysed moments such as his explosion on the scene during the Copa del Rey tie against Barcelona and his knee injury he sustained in May.
"At the beginning, when I got injured, I refused to see it as something important. Then in the hospital, when the diagnosis was made, it was a real blow. It was my first serious injury", the Madrid defender said.
"I could only think about the World Cup and told myself that I had to return to fitness and quickly. Zizou was very important in that period. During the squad's pre-season, he saw that I was getting a bit impatient and he reassured me and made me feel relaxed, which he is good at", Varane added.
On Varane's breaking into the Real Madrid first team, he said: "Sometimes you stop and tell yourself how crazy it is and that everything is moving so fast. But this is when you have to keep your feet on the ground and not let it get to you. Everything goes quickly in football. It was a time when we had one important game after another, especially in La Liga and the Champions League. I had to remain focussed and that's what I did".
