Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema admitted to his relief in ending a scoring drought for France, labelling his recent spell as the ‘most difficult’ of his career.
The 25-year-old went into the international break with Les Bleus under increased scrutiny, with a 1200-minute drought with France mirrored most recently in a dry run with Los Blancos.
However, in ending his goalless run with strikes against Australia and Finland this week, the striker hopes he is out of the worst of it.
“It has been 10 good days for the French team and for me because there were many eyes on me as usual,” Benzema reflected this week.
“I have come from experiencing the most difficult period of my young career, but I have always had confidence in myself.
“I have never given up and I will never give up.
“Whistled by the fans again? I have not noticed. I have been fortunate enough to score and then the people were happy.
“The important thing was to finish the qualification group strongly.”
