Gareth Bale will not have a mid-winter break despite having made just one start due to injury since joining Real Madrid for a record £86million in the summer.

Bale has played only 132 minutes for his new club after a thigh injury which has been blamed on a lack of pre-season training while he was still at Tottenham.

The La Liga giants have also conceded Bale has a 'small chronic discal protrusion' but say the injury is not a slipped disc and will not need an operation.

Despite this Real Madrid are set to play in Doha this January against Paris Saint Germain and Bale will join them for the mid-season clash.

The friendly will take place on January 2 with Bale making his first appearance for his new club outside of Europe.

Because of Spain's brief Christmas break the former Tottenham player would have played his last league game of the year on December 21 against Valencia and then not returned until January 5 away to Celta.

But now on New Year's Day he will fly out to Doha with team-mates to play the lucrative friendly.
