Real isn't right, now is a good time to give it our all
Bernd Shuster is especially motivated by this Saturday's game against Real Madrid, which will mark his return to the Bernabéu as a coach. He said that his team would not sit back. In fact, it plans to do the complete opposite. He might even increase his team’s attacking presence by fielding two strikers.
I've been told that you're plotting something for the Bernabéu and that you've spent the past two weeks preparing for it, setting traps...
I can't deny this is an appealing match for me. It was when I visited the Bernabéu with Levante or Getafe. It won't be any different with Málaga. What I need is for Real to fall into some of those traps... I'm going to play it safe, but I'm a realist. We have to be careful of so many things, ensure that Cristiano doesn’t get angry, that Isco doesn't face up to you or that Benzema doesn't find his scoring boots...
Tell me about the traps.
We aren't going to do anything new. We have to try and force Real to defend, play high up the pitch. Maybe, instead of playing with a lone striker, as we have until now, we'll field two and sacrifice a midfielder. You have to have an offensive presence at the Bernabéu. If you sit back and defend, you're dead. Their continuous attacking eventually breaks you down. We aren't going to park the bus.
Is now a good time to play at the Bernabéu or are you worried?
It's a good time for us. They aren't right and are ripe for the taking. They'll have just got back from an international break and won't have been able to prepare for the game, because they've only had Diego López available.
