Manchester United are set to see off competition from the likes of Real Madrid, Udinese and Sao Paulo to sign Brazilian starlet Bruno Gomes.
The 17-year-old wonderkid was on trial with the champions last summer.
At that stage a deal was struck with his current club Desportivo Brazil giving United first refusal on the player. That agreement becomes void if Desportivo receive a bid above a set amount, so the number of other suitors does pose a risk to David Moyes’ side.
United were expected to move for the striker when he turns 18. But with big-spending Real Madrid stepping up their interest, the Red Devils could see their first refusal fee blown out of the water.
The good news for United fan is that reports in Brazil suggest a move to United is still Gomes’ preferred option.
It would be wise to act quickly though – Sao Paulo are working hard to tie up a deal that would see the youngster stay in Brazil.
