Goalkeeper not set for Bernabeu move.
The agent of Juventus star Gianluigi Buffon has dismissed reports that his client could be set to join Real Madrid, according to Football Italia.
With Iker Casillas’ situation at Real Madrid currently looking uncertain, it had been suggested that the Spanish giants could move to bring in a replacement in the January transfer window, particularly as Casillas himself may move on at that time.
The Spaniard has had to make do with a place on the bench for the last few months after he was initially dropped by previous manager Jose Mourinho, and his woes have continued this season under new boss Carlo Ancelotti as well.
This has seen the 32-year-old linked strongly with Manchester City in recent weeks, as the Premier League giants are also seeking to solve something of a goalkeeping crisis of their own due to the poor recent form of Joe Hart.
Buffon, however, does not seem set to be part of this ongoing transfer saga, with his agent Silvano Martina quick to dismiss the rumours as “fanciful”.
“I do not know where that has come from, but it is pointless to even consider it,” Martina said.
“All I know is that Real Madrid will be playing Juventus in the Champions League – and that will be the only meeting Buffon will have with Madrid.
“Everything else is absolutely fanciful and unfounded.”
The veteran Italian international has been at Juventus since 2001, when he became the most expensive goalkeeper in history, and has enjoyed great success with the club.
