Giroud was preferred to Benzema for France's previous World Cup qualifying match, the 4-2 away victory over Georgia.
Since that game, Giroud has continued his good form for Arsenal, bringing his tally for the Premier League season so far to four goals in seven appearances. Benzema, meanwhile, has scored two goals in eight league games for Madrid.
At international level however, Benzema's record is far worse – the last goal the Real man scored for France dates back to June 2012.
France manager Didier Deschamps is expected to continue with Giroud as his main striker for the forthcoming friendly match with Australia on Friday and Tuesday's World Cup qualifier at home to Finland.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Friday's friendly match with Australia, Giroud played down speculation surrounding possible discord between he and Benzema over the battle for a starting spot, raising the prospect of the two playing along side each other.
Giroud said: "Of course I want to play for Les Bleus, but I think the team needs us both.”
France go in to the final round of World Cup Qualification fixtures level on points with Spain at the top of Group I. However, the world champions have a game in hand and are expected to secure qualification for the Brazil finals with four points from two remaining home matches against Belarus on Friday and Georgia on Tuesday.
Les Bleus welcome Finland on Tuesday knowing the odds are stacked against them, but assured of a spot in the World Cup Qualification play-off round by dint of their already having secured second place in the group.
